We often come to God with a list of questions. Why is this happening? What should I do? When will things get better? We long for explanations, expecting God to satisfy our minds before calming our hearts.
Yet the Gospel reveals a different pattern.
When the risen Jesus appeared to His disciples, He did not begin with explanations. They were hiding behind locked doors, overwhelmed by fear and uncertainty. His first words were simple: “Peace be with you.” Only after offering them peace did He address their doubts and questions.
The same is true for Thomas. Jesus did not rebuke him for demanding proof. Instead, He first stood before him in peace and then invited him to bring his questions into the light of His presence. Thomas’s greatest need was not evidence but an encounter with the risen Lord. In that encounter, fear gave way to faith, and his questions found their answer—not merely in facts, but in the person of Jesus Himself.
This is often how God works in our lives. He may not immediately explain our suffering, reveal His plans, or remove every uncertainty. Instead, He offers His presence. Before answering our questions, He heals our fears. Before giving us clarity, He gives us peace.
Fear can distort our vision and make us believe that God is absent. But peace restores our ability to recognize Him. When our hearts are quieted by His presence, we begin to trust even when we do not yet understand.
Many of our questions remain unanswered for a time. Yet as we grow closer to Christ, we discover that His presence is greater than the explanations we seek. The deepest answer God gives is not always a reason—it is Himself.
Today, if your heart is burdened with uncertainty, listen first for the words of the risen Jesus: “Peace be with you.” His peace may not answer every question immediately, but it will strengthen you to walk faithfully until His purposes become clear.
