Faith Continually Chooses Wonder
Wonder is not the absence of understanding. It is the humility to recognize that God is always greater than what we already know.
The people of Nazareth stopped wondering. They thought they had Jesus figured out. They knew His family, His trade, His village. Because He seemed ordinary, they became blind to the extraordinary presence of God in their midst. Familiarity replaced expectancy.
Faith chooses a different path.
Faith returns to the familiar with fresh eyes. It kneels before the same Gospel and hears a new word. It approaches the same Eucharist and receives the same Christ with renewed awe. It whispers the same prayers, not because they have become routine, but because the mystery they express can never be exhausted.
Wonder is the posture of a heart that knows God is always revealing more of Himself. It refuses to imprison Christ within yesterday’s experience or today’s assumptions. It remains teachable, receptive, and grateful.
The saints never outgrew wonder. The more they knew God, the more they realized there was infinitely more to know. Their intimacy with Christ did not diminish reverence; it deepened it. Love does not make the beloved ordinary—it makes every encounter more precious.
Faith, then, is not merely believing that God exists. It is living with holy expectancy, convinced that Christ is present and at work even in what appears ordinary.
Every sunrise, every page of Scripture, every Eucharist, every act of charity becomes an invitation to marvel again.
Faith continually chooses wonder because wonder keeps the heart open to the God who is always greater than our expectations.
