In today’s Gospel, Jesus declares that He has come not to abolish the Law but to fulfill it. Everything that God promised and taught throughout salvation history finds its completion in Christ.
Mary is a beautiful example of what it means to live this fulfillment. She did not merely obey God’s commandments externally; she embraced God’s will with her whole heart. Her “Yes” at the Annunciation was not a one-time response but a lifelong act of faithfulness renewed every day.
From Nazareth to Bethlehem, from Egypt to Calvary, Mary remained faithful to God’s plan even when she did not fully understand it. She teaches us that holiness is found not in doing extraordinary things, but in saying “yes” to God in the ordinary moments of life.
Jesus says that whoever keeps God’s commandments and teaches them will be great in the Kingdom of Heaven. Mary is the perfect disciple because she listened to God’s word, treasured it in her heart, and lived it faithfully.
Thus, the Gospel invites us to imitate Mary. Like her, we are called not merely to know God’s law but to love it, not merely to obey God once but to renew our “yes” each day.
What was in the “Yes” of Mary? A complete “Yes” renewed every day. Through that daily fidelity, she became the first and greatest disciple of Christ. May we learn from her to trust God’s will and follow Him faithfully, one day at a time.
