”Andiyan na me”?

Have you ever received a message that simply says, “Andiyan na ako.” (“I’m here.”)

Those three words instantly change everything. When a loved one says, “Andiyan na ako,” our waiting ends. We stop looking at the clock. We open the door because the one we have been expecting has arrived.

The feast of John the Baptist is about that very announcement. But John never says, “Andiyan na ako.” His message is greater: “Andiyan na Siya!” The One whom Israel has been waiting for is finally here.

What is remarkable is this: before John announced the Lord’s coming, God had already been with His people. He walked with Abraham, spoke through Moses, inspired the prophets, and remained faithful throughout Israel’s history. John did not bring God to His people. He prepared their hearts to recognize the God who had already drawn near.

Like Elijah before him, John stood at the Jordan River, calling people to repentance. It was there that Elijah’s prophetic mission ended, and there that John’s mission began. Elijah prepared Israel to return to God; John prepared Israel to meet God face to face in Jesus Christ.

Today, John’s voice still echoes in the Church. He invites us to stop asking, “Where is God?” and instead to open our eyes to the God who is already here, already at work, already knocking at the door of our hearts.
