Do Not Focus on What You Are Losing, but on What You Are Gaining
My dear brothers and sisters,
The man who found the treasure did not go home grieving because he had to sell everything. He went home filled with joy because he had found something worth far more than all he possessed. His eyes were no longer fixed on what he was giving up, but on the treasure he was about to gain.
This is the wisdom of the Kingdom of God. Many people see following Christ only in terms of sacrifice: giving up pleasures, forgiving those who hurt us, carrying the cross, choosing honesty over convenience, serving instead of being served. But Jesus invites us to see with different eyes. Discipleship is not first about what we lose; it is about what we gain. We gain a heart at peace, a life filled with purpose, the joy of God’s friendship, and the promise of eternal life.
Every worthwhile love demands sacrifice. Parents sacrifice for their children, spouses for one another, and friends for those they cherish. Yet no one counts these sacrifices as losses because love transforms them into gifts. The same is true with Christ. The more we love Him, the less we count the cost, because we know that nothing we surrender can compare with what He gives in return.
So today, instead of asking, “What must I give up for Christ?” let us ask, “What do I gain by belonging to Him?” When our eyes are fixed on the Treasure, every sacrifice becomes an act of joyful love, and every step of discipleship becomes a journey toward the fullness of God’s Kingdom.
May we always remember: in Christ, we never lose what truly matters—we gain everything that lasts forever.
