The Gospel of Matthew 12:46–50 invites us to reflect on the heart of every parish community. When Jesus says, “Whoever does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother and sister and mother,” He reveals that the Church is first and foremost a family gathered around Him.
Our parish is blessed with many ministries, communities, and apostolates, each contributing in its own unique way to the mission of the Church. Yet this Gospel gently reminds us that the source of our unity is not our particular ministry or activity, but our common relationship with Jesus Christ.
When Christ is at the center, the New Evangelization becomes an invitation to encounter Him personally. The Bible Apostolate helps us listen to His voice through the Scriptures and discern the Father’s will. Basic Ecclesial Communities (BECs) become places where His family is experienced in prayer, fellowship, and service. Interministeriality becomes a joyful collaboration in which different ministries support one another because all serve the same Lord.
This Gospel encourages us to ask a simple but important question: Does everything we do lead people closer to Jesus?
When Christ remains at the center, our ministries become more united, our communities become more welcoming, our service becomes more collaborative, and our parish more fully reflects the family of God that Jesus came to establish.
May every ministry, every BEC, every apostolate, and every parishioner continue to find their unity, strength, and mission in Christ, who calls us all to be one family in the Father’s love.
