MONDAY OF THE 16TH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME
Matthew 12:38–42
The scribes and Pharisees asked Jesus for a sign, but they failed to recognize the greatest sign already standing before them. Their hearts were searching for something extraordinary while ignoring the truth God had already revealed.
Today, many Catholics are not unlike them. We seek inspiration, solutions, and even miracles, yet the Word of God remains unopened in our own homes. The Bible is often displayed with honor but rarely read with faith. We long for God to speak, while His voice patiently waits to be heard in the Scriptures.
The New Evangelization begins here. Before we look to evangelize others, we must first re-evangelize our families. Our homes should be the first place where the Gospel is proclaimed, where parents teach their children to love God’s Word, and where families gather to pray and reflect on the Scriptures together. The domestic Church is the heart of the Church’s mission.
Jesus declared that something greater than Jonah and Solomon was present. That same Lord is present today whenever His Word is proclaimed and received with faith. The question is not whether God is speaking, but whether we are listening.
Reflection:
If the Bible has become a forgotten book in your home, let today be a new beginning. Open it, read it together, and allow the living Word of God to renew your family. The renewal of the Church begins with the renewal of the Christian home.
